"Iran considers itself a loser after the Second Karabakh War" - Azerbaijani expert

"Iran and Azerbaijan have good neighborly relations. Unfortunately, Iran feels uneasy after the Second Karabakh War. Some even say that this country considers itself a loser," Farid Shafiyev, chairman of the Center for International Relations Analysis, told Report.

He stressed that Iran has always enjoyed good relations with Armenia.

"In this sense, it has lost. But if it looks ahead, new opportunities and corridors are creating new advantages for Iran. They are concerned that the Zangazur corridor will cut Iran's ties with this region, pushing Tehran away from the area. But this is wide of the mark. I recently met with representatives and experts from a number of Iranian think tanks. Not everyone see eye to eye, some take a constructive position. I informed them that if the Zangazur corridor is opened, there will be a railway connection between Iran and Armenia through Julfa.”

Farid Shafiyev noted that Iran has friendly relations with Armenia, and Azerbaijan with Israel.

"This is our sovereign right. Our cooperation with Israel is more about security. Israeli weapons proved their efficiency in the Patriotic War. As a former diplomat, I would like issues to be resolved diplomatically and Iran to look at this region as a venue of potential cooperation.”
