Serbia unhappy with Russia’s new gas tariff

Serbia unhappy with Russia’s new gas tariff
18.10.2021 19:30
Russia has proposed to its main Balkan ally, the Republic of Serbia, a formula for calculating the price of gas, according to which, the gas tariff will triple to $790 per 1,000 cu. m, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told TV Prva.

Report informs that Serbia and Russia are currently negotiating a new long-term gas contract. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed dissatisfaction with the price of natural gas offered by Gazprom.

"For the first time, I will say what Russians offered us. I said that we cannot pay for this. The Russians said that the price should be calculated at 70% according to the market value and 30% according to the oil formula, that is, $790 instead of $270, which we now pay according to the [completely] oil formula,” Vucic said.

According to him, Serbia proposes that the price be calculated by 70% according to the oil formula and 30% according to the exchange value.

"It will be $510, but we cannot pay for that either. I will ask that the price to remain entirely at the oil formula at least until the end of the heating season,” he added.

The current contract, according to which Belgrade receives gas from Moscow at $270 per 1,000 cubic meters, is valid until the end of 2021.
