Moscow comments on meeting of public representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia

The meeting of public representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia has achieved its goal of restoring the friendly communication between representatives of the scientific, creative elites of the two countries, forming a favorable background for the consistent normalization of relations between the countries, Spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a weekly briefing.

The participants were unanimous that they see the role of the intellectuals in reducing the degree of mistrust between the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples. According to her, the disposition for a constructive dialogue was demonstrated, among other things, during the discussion of several humanitarian topics, including "the transfer of the remaining maps of minefields by Armenia."

Zakharova noted that Russia supports such undertakings.

"In the future, we plan to conduct such contacts regularly, including in Azerbaijan and Armenia," Zakharova said.

On December 24, public representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia held their first meeting in Moscow after the end of the military conflict in Karabakh.
