France ready for scenario of Russia’s cutting off gas supplies

France has foreseen all scenarios, including the one in which Russia decides to cut off gas supplies to Europe, French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire said on the air of Europe 1 radio station.

He noted that such a scenario would be catastrophic, but it is being considered.

On March 29, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that it was impossible to pay for Russian gas contracts in rubles.

Le Maire also urged French companies that operate in Russia to strictly comply with European sanctions.

"France’s position is very clear: sanctions, all sanctions, nothing but sanctions... Therefore, the only thing we ask our companies is to strictly comply with the sanctions adopted at the political level,” he said.

He noted that the purpose of the sanctions is not to harm European entrepreneurs, but to hit the Russian leadership.
