Retail trade turnover grows more than 3% in Azerbaijan

In January-March this year, goods worth 11 billion manats were sold to consumers in Azerbaijan’s retail network, including food products, drinks, and tobacco products - for 6.2 billion manats, non-food products, drinks, and tobacco products - for 4.8 billion manats, reported from the State Statistics Committee.

Compared to January-March last year, the retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 3.1%, including food products, drinks, and tobacco products - by 2.6%, and non-food products, drinks, and tobacco products - by 3.7%.

During the reporting period, 51% of funds spent by buyers on final consumption goods were for food, 5.5% for drinks and tobacco products, 15.2% for textiles, clothing, and footwear, 5.2% for motor gasoline and diesel fuel, 4.7% for electrical goods and furniture, 2.4% for pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, 1.1% for the purchase of computers, telecommunications equipment, and printed products, and 14.9% for other non-food products.

In the first quarter of 2022, the cost of goods sold by economic entities of the non-state sector increased in real terms by 3.2% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 99.8% of the total retail trade turnover. Compared to January-March 2021, the retail trade turnover in real terms increased by 13.3% for enterprises, by 1.1% for markets and fairs, and decreased by 1.3% for individual entrepreneurs.

On average, an Azerbaijani resident spent 365.1 manats per month on goods, including 206.2 manats on food, drinks, and tobacco products and 158.9 manats on non-food products.
