Italian ambassador notes importance of transporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe

Georgia plays a vital role in the diversification of energy supplies, Italian Ambassador to Georgia Enrico Valvo said during a hearing at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Parliament. 

"In this regard, our efforts to reduce dependence on Russia are important, including facilitating the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Italy, Greece or other countries,” the ambassador said.

The ambassador also touched upon the issue of expanding relations between Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Noting the peace initiative of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Valvo said that it meets the common interests of the three countries of the South Caucasus, intensifies joint efforts and enhances Georgia's role in the region.
