Currently, mobile payments account for up to 8% of total payments in Azerbaijan, said Avshar Gurdal, the new CEO of the international payment company Mastercard for Azerbaijan and Turkiye.

"We expect that next year this figure will exceed 40%,” he said.

"Currently, there are 12 million plastic cards in Azerbaijan, of which about 80% are contactless. As in the rest of the world, e-commerce is developing in Azerbaijan. The share of payments via cards is about 20% of the total transaction volume. In the world, this figure is about 38%. But we want this indicator to exceed the 50% mark. E-commerce plays an important role. MasterCard will continue to support e-commerce,” Gurdal said.
