The level of occupancy of underground gas storages (UGS) in the European Union has reached 91.56%, which corresponds to 99 billion cubic meters, reported from the Gas Infrastructure Europe.
In countries with the largest gas storages in terms of volume, their occupancy exceeds 90%: it is 94.97% (22.6 billion cubic meters) in Germany, 93.27% (17.5 billion) in Italy, 98.27% (12.7 billion) in France, 93.27% (12.6 billion) in the Netherlands.
The total capacity of UGS facilities in the European Union is about 110 billion cubic meters.
Analysts noted that in the autumn-winter period, the region’s demand, as a rule, is about 250 billion cubic meters, that is, current reserves can cover about 40% of demand. However, the European Commission reported that UGS usually provide 25-30% of the gas consumed in Europe in winter.
