Voting in the second round of the presidential elections has ended in foreign missions of Turkiye, the figure exceeded the number of voters in the first round and became a record, according to the Supreme Election Council, reported from Turkish media.

Almost 1.84 million people voted in the first round abroad and at border checkpoints, the turnout exceeded 53%, more than 16,000 votes were invalidated. In the first round, voting abroad went on for almost two weeks, in the second round - 4 days, in some countries a day was allotted for elections.

"More than 1.85 million citizens voted in foreign representations of Turkiye,” TRT TV channel reports with reference to the commission.

In turn, the representative of the ruling Justice and Development Party in the commission, Recep Ozel, claims that the number of voters who came to the polling stations exceeded 1.89 million.

At the border checkpoints, voting will end simultaneously with the closure of sites in Turkiye itself - at 17:00 on May 28.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 49.52% of the vote in the first round of the presidential elections, his rival from the seven opposition parties, Kemal Kılıçdaroglu - 44.88%. The second round of presidential elections is scheduled for May 28. To win, a candidate needs a simple majority of votes.
