Türkiye counts on US reciprocity on F-16 sales

Türkiye counts on US reciprocity on F-16 sales
06.12.2023 18:30
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he expects reciprocity from the US regarding the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Ankara in response to the Turkish parliament’s ratification of Sweden’s application for NATO membership, reported from Anadolu Agency.

"On the F-16 issue, we told our interlocutors: 'If the US has a Congress, we also have a Congress, namely our parliament,' which will make the final decision [on the approval of the Swedish application]. As president, I handed it [the ratification protocol] to parliament, and you [the US] thanked me. I have fulfilled my duty, now I expect something from you. Let’s take these steps together, at the same time,” Erdogan noted.

Erdogan added that Türkiye’s negotiations on acquiring the Eurofighter in case the US refuses to sell it the F-16 continue, noting that Türkiye has other alternatives in the matter of acquiring new generation fighters.
