The decision to grant Georgia the status of a candidate country for the European Union will be a turning point not only for the European future of the country, but also for the EU enlargement policy, according to a letter from Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili to the EU leadership.

This is a turning point for Georgia’s European future, as well as for the credibility of the EU enlargement policy - a geostrategic investment in the peace, stability and prosperity of all of Europe, the letter says.

He sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as well as Pedro Sanchez, head of the Spanish government that is presiding over the Council of the EU this year.
