Bakcell, an innovation and speed leader, has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). A memorandum was signed between Bakcell CEO Klaus Mueller and Samir Mammadov, Country Manager of the UN Global Compact Network in Azerbaijan, to formalize this commitment.

Klaus Mueller stated that by joining this initiative, the company reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility: "Operating in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is at the core of our strategy. By applying the 10 principles of the Global Compact, we will further improve our activities in environmental, social, and corporate governance."

Samir Mammadov emphasized: "By joining the United Nations Global Compact, Bakcell reconfirms its commitment to contribute to a sustainable future; it is a public promise to contribute to creating a better future for all. It is a promise to its partners, shareholders, suppliers, staff, and customers, a promise to future generations, and Bakcell is known to be a corporate company that delivers on its promises. Technology is one of the critical enablers of sustainability, and being an innovator, Bakcell shall play a significant role in making technology available for a better, more responsible, and caring way of life, for individuals, societies, and industries.”

It is worth mentioning that Bakcell contributes to the development of Azerbaijan's economy and supports the country's sustainable development goals through various innovative projects, including those in the liberated territories. The company’s environmental initiatives aim to reduce energy consumption, minimize the environmental impact of electronic waste, and promote the use of renewable energy sources. For instance, Bakcell is reducing plastic waste through the introduction of eSIM technology and is also conducting a pilot project involving renewable energy-powered stations. Moreover, through its "FLEXcellence" program, the company is promoting hybrid work modes, helping employees reduce energy and time wastage while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest international initiative focused on sustainable development and social responsibility. Currently, more than 20,000 organizations from over 160 countries are part of this initiative. Its main objective is to align the strategies and activities of its members with internationally accepted principles regarding human rights, labor rights, environmental protection, and the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development."
