EU can't accept that Georgia's government is chosen not by Brussels, says Szijjártó

During his visit to Tbilisi, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó criticized European Union ministers who questioned the results of the recent parliamentary elections in Georgia,  reported from Georgian media.

He said they are unable to accept that the Georgian government is elected by its own people, not appointed from Brussels.

"Thirteen European foreign ministers still can't stomach the fact that democracy is the will of the people," Szijjártó declared. "They can't digest that the Georgian government is chosen by the Georgian people themselves, not by Brussels."

The Hungarian diplomat further argued that, according to the "liberal mainstream" view prevalent in the EU, democracy only exists in a country when a liberal party wins the elections.

Previously, ministers from several EU countries, including Germany, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, and Finland, expressed concern over the situation in Georgia, citing "identified irregularities" during the election process.
