Turkmen natural gas supplies to Türkiye will begin on March 1, 2025, Türkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced on the social media platform X.

"A historic step has been taken in energy cooperation between Türkiye and Turkmenistan. BOTAS and 'Turkmengaz' have signed an agreement for the supply of Turkmen gas to Türkiye. Under the agreement, gas supplies are planned to start on March 1, 2025," the minister said.

He noted that the signing of the agreement was a concrete result of the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of cooperation in the gas sector, signed between the two countries in Antalya in March 2024, in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

"This agreement, which we have been working on for many years, will strengthen the security of natural gas supplies to our country and the entire region, as well as promote strategic cooperation between Türkiye and Turkmenistan," added Bayraktar.

Earlier, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, informed about the agreement with the Turkish company BOTAS for the transit of Turkmen gas to Türkiye via Iran under a swap arrangement.
