US President Donald Trump told journalists in the White House that Saudi Arabia may serve as the venue for his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Reuters.

"We think we’re going to probably meet in Saudi Arabia, the first meeting," the US president said some hours after his telephone call with Putin.

According to Trump, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud could play a role in the discussions between the Russian and US presidents.

"We know the crown prince, and I think it’d be a very good place to be," he said.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced earlier that Putin's telephone call with Trump on Wednesday lasted almost for an hour and a half and they discussed among other things the conflict in Ukraine, the ongoing developments in the Middle East, as well as the issue of the swap of convicted citizens of the two countries.

The leaders of Russia and the United States agreed to continue contacts and hold a personal meeting in the future, Peskov added.

According to the Kremlin website, Putin and Trump last met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan, in late June 2019.
