Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday dismissed the Group of Seven (G7) as insignificant on the global map, questioning why it is referred to as “big.”

“Why is it called big? I don’t understand. What’s big about it? Wherever you look, you can’t see them on the map,” Putin said during a speech at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) congress.

He cited economic growth statistics, noting that G7 nations recorded GDP growth of 1.9%, compared to 4.9% for BRICS countries. Russia’s GDP grew by 4.1%, he added.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a phone conversation on March 18 between 16:00 and 18:00 Moscow time (17:00–19:00 Baku time).
