Indonesia not planning tit-for-tat response to U.S. tariffs

Indonesia has no plans to impose reciprocal tariffs in response to new U.S. trade measures, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Monday.

“We have chosen an approach based on long-term interests in bilateral trade relations and to support investment, economic stability, and climate,” Hartarto said.

He added that Jakarta would seek negotiations to find a mutually acceptable solution.

The minister also noted that the government would consider input from the business community when developing its response strategy and would explore ways to expand trade with Europe as a counterbalance to the U.S. and China.
