Azerbaijan starts gold imports from three more countries

In January–February 2025, Azerbaijan imported 15,868 kilograms of gold worth $1.42 billion from 16 countries, according to the State Statistics Committee.

The imports included gold bars, wires, profiles, and sheets thicker than 0.15 mm.

Significant increases in gold imports have been observed since April last year.

Top suppliers during the reporting period:

Russia – 3,475 kg ($315.5 million)

Australia – 2,829 kg ($241.3 million)

Mexico – 2,000 kg ($174.7 million)

China – 1,173 kg ($108.2 million)

United Kingdom – 1,200 kg ($106.2 million)

For the first time in the past 14 years, Azerbaijan also imported gold from:

Uzbekistan – 397 kg ($37.2 million)

Hong Kong – 159 kg ($14.2 million)

Japan – 37.9 kg ($3.5 million)

By comparison, only 1,724 kg of gold worth $98.3 million was imported during 2020–2023. In 2024, the figure soared to 41,078 kg worth $3.31 billion.
