Arkadi Ghukasyan names Khojaly genocide leaders during Baku war crimes trial

Arkadi Ghukasyan names Khojaly genocide leaders during Baku war crimes trial
22.04.2025 09:30

Former separatist leader Arkadi Ghukasyan on Monday named Artur Mkrtchyan, Serzh Sargsyan and Arkadi Ter-Tadevosyan as those who led the self-proclaimed regime during the 1992 Khojaly massacre, calling the mass killing of Azerbaijani civilians “unacceptable” and a “bloody page of the war.”

Speaking at an ongoing war crimes trial in Baku, Ghukasyan said hundreds of civilians were brought from Khojaly to Khankandi, confirming the scale of the atrocity. Other defendants, including Arayik Harutyunyan and Bako Sahakyan, also condemned the killings, while denying direct involvement.

The trial, involving 15 Armenian nationals including ex-officials, concerns charges of genocide, war crimes, terrorism, and other crimes related to Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan. Proceedings continue April 24.
