Elshad Hajiyev, head of the press service at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that preventing theft from bank cards largely depends on individual users.   Hajiyev made the remarks during a panel discussion at the second forum on “Public Processes in the Media Space” held in Baku.

“Security issues related to bank cards have become more pressing. Citizens must protect their personal data. We’ve ramped up awareness campaigns. Posting card details online or responding to suspicious calls—especially from abroad—can result in funds being stolen,” he said.

Hajiyev added that misunderstandings between banks and customers sometimes occur: “If a citizen loses money, they often blame the bank. But if the bank’s security systems were not compromised, such accusations are unfounded.”

The official also noted that efforts to educate the public are showing results: “We now register 10 to 20 fraud cases daily, compared to around 50 previously.”
