Italian construction technology company Maplad has unveiled an innovative alternative to conventional steel rebar — GFRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) fiberglass reinforcement bars — at an international construction expo in Dubai attended by delegates from 167 countries.

"The product is designed for underground construction, bridges, tunnels, and heavy infrastructure. Made from high-strength fibers bonded with polyester or vinyl ester resin, the rebar is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and easy to install by hand," CEO Giuseppe Manuele said to FED.az.

The price per kilogram is approximately $2.5. The bars come in 2D (round and rectangular) and 3D (spiral) forms and do not rust like traditional steel.

Maplad’s distribution network spans Europe, the U.S., North Africa, and the Middle East.
