Businessman Isfandiyar Akhundov appears in court over defamation case

Azerbaijani businessman Isfandiyar Akhundov, owner of the construction company “Sharur MTK” and known publicly as "Sharurlu Isfandiyar", appeared at Baku’s Binagadi District Court on Tuesday for a hearing in a private criminal prosecution case.

Judge Vusal Taghiyev chaired the session.

Akhundov faces charges under Articles 147.2 (defamation) and 148 (insult) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.

At a previous hearing, the lawyer of the complainant, businessman Emil Samandarov, had filed a motion requesting Akhundov be brought to court by force. The court declined to review the motion.
