French energy company TotalEnergies plans to build a gas processing facility at Azerbaijan’s Absheron offshore field in the Caspian Sea, Jean-Luc Guiziou, senior vice president for exploration and production in Europe, said at the Baku Energy Forum.

“The project includes constructing an onshore gas processing facility at a later stage of Absheron’s development. We successfully applied this model in Iraq, and it will also benefit Azerbaijan,” Guiziou said.

According to him, the new facility will help reduce the carbon footprint of production. He added that preparatory work is already underway.

Gas and condensate production at Absheron began in July 2023. The field’s reserves are estimated at 300–400 billion cubic meters.
