bp announced on Thursday that Giovanni Cristofoli has been appointed regional president for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey (AGT), effective from October 1, 2025. He will be based in bp’s office in Baku.

Cristofoli currently serves as bp’s senior vice president for technical solutions and leads the company’s global organization that supports upstream, refining, low-carbon energy and joint ventures. Under his leadership, bp has transformed operations in technical services, asset integrity, subsea operations and other critical areas.

He will succeed Gary Jones, who has led bp’s AGT operations since April 2017. Details of Jones’s next role will be announced later.

bp CEO Murray Auchincloss described Cristofoli as a seasoned leader in the global energy industry with a strong track record in strategy, operational excellence and transformation.

Auchincloss also thanked Jones for his leadership over the past eight years, highlighting the company’s strong partnerships with the Azerbaijani government, SOCAR and others. He pointed to the five new projects announced during Baku Energy Week as a sign of bp’s continued long-term commitment to the region.
