Suspected drug trafficker shot by police during arrest in Baku

A 29-year-old man, Tekhran Mamedov, was fatally shot by police late Monday in Baku’s Garadagh district after resisting arrest during a drug trafficking operation, Azerbaijan’s Interior Ministry said.
According to the ministry, Mamedov, driving a VAZ-2104, refused to stop when ordered by officers and crashed into a roadside barrier. Armed with a knife, he resisted law enforcement and made illegal demands in an attempt to help his passenger escape.
After multiple warnings, a police officer used a service weapon to neutralize Mamedov. His accomplice was arrested on the spot. Authorities seized 10 kilograms of narcotics from the vehicle.
A criminal case has been launched, and an investigation is underway.
