Sobchak condemns killing of Safarov brothers

Russian journalist Ksenia Sobchak has commented on the growing diplomatic fallout between Russia and Azerbaijan following the deaths of two Azerbaijani brothers during a police raid in Yekaterinburg.
In a post on her Telegram channel, Sobchak referred to images published by Azerbaijani media showing the bodies of the deceased, describing them as having “no uninjured areas.” She pointed out that the Russian Investigative Committee listed the cause of death for one of the men as heart failure.
“Even if someone is a suspect, guilt must be proven in court — that can never justify torture,” she wrote. “It doesn’t matter what nationality they are, what passport they hold, or what they’re accused of.”
Sobchak stated that the actions of certain law enforcement officers have sparked an international scandal. “And then we act surprised when people abroad don’t welcome us, don’t like us, or detain us,” she added. “It’s because someone believed they could act with impunity.”
