Ayaz Safarov, one of eight Azerbaijani nationals arrested in connection with events that took place in Yekaterinburg in the early 2000s, has appealed a court decision to place him in pre-trial detention, Russian court officials said on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg had ordered the detention of Ayaz, Akif, Mazahir, Kamal, and Bakir Safarov, as well as Akhliman Ganjiev, Shahin Lalaev and Aziz Abbasov.

Akif Safarov had previously filed a separate appeal. The court confirmed that Ayaz Safarov’s appeal was submitted by his legal representative.
