Azerbaijan court extends pre-trial detention of two civil society leaders

A district court in Baku has extended the pre-trial detention of Mammad Mammadzade, director of the Election Monitoring Alliance, and Bashir Suleymanli, head of the Institute for Civil Rights, until October 12, their lawyer Bahruz Bayramov said on Tuesday.

Both men were arrested in March 2025 and face charges including abuse of office, official forgery, and large-scale money laundering. The investigation remains ongoing.
