Azerbaijan increases funding for police to boost social protection and equipment

Azerbaijan has expanded funding sources for its police force to strengthen officers’ social protection and improve the material and technical capacity of law enforcement, according to amendments to the Law on Police signed by President Ilham Aliyev.

Under the changes, 5% of funds paid into the state budget during pre-trial investigations — for compensation of damages caused to the state in cases investigated by police — will now be transferred to a treasury account designated by an executive authority.

Additionally, 5% of funds paid to the state budget for exemption from criminal liability under the Criminal Code, in cases investigated by police, will also be allocated to the same account.

The procedure for using these funds will be determined by a body appointed by the relevant executive authority.
