Baku police warn: sticking hand out of car window could cost 40 manats

Baku’s State Traffic Police Department has warned that the habit of some drivers of sticking their hands out of car windows while driving increases the risk of road accidents.
The department said one cause of accidents is drivers losing control of their vehicles. “Unfortunately, some drivers extend their hands out of the window while behind the wheel, which makes handling more difficult and increases the likelihood of a crash,” the statement read.
Under Azerbaijani law, drivers must keep their hands on the steering wheel while the car is in motion. Violations are punishable by a fine of 40 manats under Article 342.1.4 of the Administrative Offences Code.
The police urged motorists to remain attentive and strictly follow traffic rules.
