Armenia, Azerbaijan agree to reopen roads as US plans ‘Trump Route’ project

Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to reopen roads on the basis of sovereignty and territorial integrity, Armenian parliament deputy speaker Ruben Rubinyan said, adding that Yerevan “has not agreed and will not agree” to any corridor arrangements.

However, Politico and Axios, citing sources, reported that Armenia has approved a 43.5-kilometre route through its territory under US management. The project, potentially named the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” would link Azerbaijan’s mainland with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The route would include construction of a railway, oil and gas pipelines, and communication lines. It will be developed by private companies without US budget funding.

US President Donald Trump said that during White House meetings, the Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders will sign a peace agreement and bilateral economic accords.
