US senator: Peace between Baku and Yerevan key for Central Asia

U.S. Senator Steve Daines, a Republican from Montana, said a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan carries major geopolitical significance for Central Asia.
Speaking at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, Daines warned that U.S. adversaries were trying to undermine Washington’s expanded engagement with the region.
“The breakthrough peace deal signed with the participation of President Donald Trump between Azerbaijan and Armenia has significant geopolitical consequences for Central Asia,” he said.
He added that the United States was “turning the page from the previous administration” by focusing on tangible investments and closer cooperation with Central Asian states. Building strong ties with these countries, he stressed, is crucial for U.S. national security and for strengthening its position in the strategically important region.
