First salary in Russia was paid in digital rubles

The Russian Treasury has made the first salary payment in digital rubles to a person holding a state position in the Russian Federation  citing the Russian Ministry of Finance.

The ministry did not disclose the name of the first person to receive a salary in digital rubles.“The experiment on the application of the digital ruble to the budget process is being carried out jointly with the Russian Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Russia,” the report states.

The statement issued by the ministry notes that transactions will be carried out with digital ruble accounts starting from January 1, 2026.

Payments will be made in digital rubles only at the request of the recipients.
