Azerbaijan tightens penalties for animal abuse

"Reforms have been introduced in Azerbaijan to strengthen the protection of animal rights. As a result of amendments to the new Administrative Offenses Code, liability has been further strengthened," Aynur Osmanova, head of the Legal Security and Human Rights Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, said in a live broadcast on social media.

He stated that administrative liability is provided for causing suffering to animals: “Cases of animal fighting on social media also entail administrative responsibility. If such incidents result in the death of an animal, the fine is increased and the liability is further strengthened.”
