3,990 Azerbaijanis registered as missing

Ali Nagiyev, head of the State Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, said that 3,990 people are registered as missing, including 3,984 from the First Karabakh War and six from the 2020 Patriotic War.

He said more than 11,000 biological samples have been collected, with 187 remains handed over to their families. Around 800 sets of human remains and 29 mass graves have been discovered in territories liberated from occupation.

Nagiyev added that Article 9 of the peace treaty draft, initialed in Washington in August 2025 at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, focuses on clarifying the fate of missing persons, and ongoing information exchanges with Armenia create new prospects for progress.
