With the support of the affordable mobile operator Nar, Azerbaijan’s first mobile application for learning sign language – JestPlus – has now been launched. This important social project was implemented with the joint support of Nar, ADA University and ADA University Foundation, bp and its co-venturers. The content development and methodological framework of the app were carried out by the “Support to the Deaf” Public Union. The project aims to expand communication opportunities for people with hearing and speech impairments, promote inclusivity, and make sign language learning accessible to everyone.

The JestPlus app is designed to provide a structured approach to learning sign language and goes beyond a simple dictionary, offering users interactive lessons, tests, and practical exercises. The app features 789 videos, 358 sign language words, 27 illustrative images, and 32 dactyl animations, providing an engaging and effective learning experience. These materials are intended to help users further strengthen their knowledge and communication skills in sign language. The “JestPlus” app will soon be available to everyone interested in learning Azerbaijani Sign Language.

Hokuma Karimova, Director of Corporate Communications at Nar, stated: “Enhancing access to information and education for people with hearing and speech impairments is one of the key priorities of Nar’s corporate social responsibility strategy. By supporting this mobile application, we contribute to building an inclusive society and promoting the wider use of sign language across the country.”

It should be noted that Nar previously developed Azerbaijan’s first unified sign language portal  www.jestdili.az contributing to the creation of a more inclusive society. The mobile operator continues this mission through the development of the new sign language app and by implementing long-term social projects that help people with hearing and speech impairments enhance their knowledge and skills. More information about Nar’s social projects can be found here.

Nar currently provides high-quality communication services to 2.2 million subscribers. Nar has been the leading mobile operator in the country according to the Net Promoter Score for the last 6 years.
