About 22,000 people have been resettled in the Karabakh districts of Khankendi, Aghdara and Khojaly since the region’s liberation, Elchin Yusubov, the Azerbaijani president’s special representative in Khankendi, said on Monday.

The returnees include former internally displaced persons as well as employees in the public and private sectors and their families.

As part of the “Great Return” programme, restoration works are under way in Khankendi’s Karkijahan settlement, 11 villages of Khojaly and seven villages of Aghdara. At this stage, up to 6,000 former displaced persons are expected to be resettled.

Yusubov said new highways, railroads, airports, energy and water supply systems are being built in the region, alongside projects in education, healthcare and cultural heritage. The liberated territories now also host both local and international events.

More than 65 million manats have been invested in the territories so far.

Karabakh is currently hosting a “Week of Moral Values” dedicated to the fifth anniversary of victory in the 2020 war, co-organized by the State Committee for Work with Religious Institutions, Karabakh University and other institutions.
