Five years since Azerbaijan liberated Zangilan and surrounding villages

Today marks the fifth anniversary of the liberation of Zangilan city and several villages by Azerbaijani forces during counter-terrorist operations in the Second Karabakh war.
On October 20, 2020, Azerbaijani troops freed villages in the Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Khojavend districts, along with Zangilan and nearby settlements.
President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation in an address to the nation the same day. Under a decree signed on July 31, 2023, October 20 is commemorated in Azerbaijan as Zangilan City Day.
