Russia plans to send an additional 132 rail wagons of wheat to Armenia by the end of January 2026 via a new transit route through Azerbaijan, Russia’s Transport Ministry said on Thursday.

The first shipment, over 1,000 tonnes of grain, departed from the Dimitrovgrad station in the Ulyanovsk region. Fifteen grain wagons have already passed through Azerbaijan and crossed the Georgia–Armenia border, delivering cargo to the Dalarik station of the South Caucasus Railway, the ministry said.

Officials noted that the new logistics route became possible after the resumption of cargo transit through Azerbaijani territory — the first such rail transport since the 1990s.

The ministry added that deliveries of other types of cargo using the same route are also under consideration.
