Aliyev says ICT sector is now the leading force in Azerbaijan’s non-oil economy
Azerbaijan’s information and communication technologies sector has become the main driver of the country’s non-oil economy and has shown stable growth over the past four years, President Ilham Aliyev said in an address to the World Telecommunication Development Conference in Baku.
He said expansion of digital infrastructure, development of artificial intelligence and stronger cyberdefence now form an essential part of Azerbaijan’s national security architecture.
Aliyev noted that the country has achieved full broadband coverage and that 3.6 million people are using the SIMA biometric digital ID system. He added that the ITU will open a Regional Acceleration Centre in Baku.
