Global energy demand will remain high for decades
Global energy demand will remain high for decades, and the Caspian region’s existing oil and gas infrastructure will continue to play a strategic role, BP regional president Giovanni Cristofoli said.
He said BP’s latest Energy Outlook shows that by 2050 global energy demand will be around 10% higher than today, with about half of it still met by oil and gas.
Cristofoli noted that even under a scenario that keeps global warming below 2°C, demand “will be about two-thirds of today’s level, and roughly one-third of that will still come from oil and gas.”
He said this indicates a long-term need for hydrocarbons, reinforcing the Caspian region’s position as an energy hub.
The BP official cited the region’s strengths, including pipeline routes connecting to Europe, strong local talent, a more collaborative operator–contractor model, and a business-friendly environment.
He added that organisations such as SPE and IOGP are becoming “critical for sharing best practices, technology and industry standards” amid increasing technical and geopolitical complexity.
