Hungary’s Orban threatens EU court action over frozen Russian assets
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Budapest could turn to the European Union’s top court if its position on the use of frozen Russian assets is ignored.
Speaking to the Patriota news portal, Orban said the EU had decided to freeze Russian assets indefinitely, a move he said effectively bypasses Hungary’s veto. He described the stripping of what he called Hungary’s “right to resist” as illegal.
“Once these decisions are published in written form, we will go to the EU court the following morning and try to enforce our demands through legal channels,” Orban said.
He added that Budapest does not expect a favourable outcome but will “do everything necessary” regardless.
