German chancellor outlines details of talks on Ukraine
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said talks on Ukraine include discussions on the possible creation of a demilitarised zone in the east of the country.
Speaking to broadcaster ZDF, Merz said the issue was being discussed among the United States, Russia, Ukraine and European partners.
He voiced support for the idea, saying such a zone could help separate the opposing sides. Merz stressed, however, that a demilitarised zone would not amount to the establishment of a special economic zone.
“These are all plans for the future. We are not there yet,” Merz said.
