Ukraine risks financial crisis without new funding, The Guardian reports
19.12.2025 11:30

Ukraine could face a financial crisis as early as next spring if it fails to secure new external funding, Britain’s The Guardian reported, citing assessments by the European Commission.

According to the Commission, Kyiv will need about 136 billion euros in 2026 and 2027 to fund defence spending and ensure the normal functioning of the state.

Without fresh financial inflows, Ukraine could struggle to meet basic obligations, including paying salaries to soldiers, teachers and police officers, the report said.

Ukraine’s financial stability in the coming years will depend directly on the scale of international assistance and the speed of decision-making by Western partners, the newspaper added.
