AZAL says air crash investigations typically recommended to conclude within a year
23.12.2025 15:27

International aviation safety standards generally recommend that air crash investigations be completed within one year of an incident, Ilham Amirov, vice president of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), said.

He noted that this timeframe is not a strict requirement but a recommendation.

Amirov said investigation findings are of critical importance as they are shared with international aviation bodies to help prevent similar incidents in the future. He added that there are no rigid deadlines and that investigations may take years if necessary.

In some cases, he said, individual aircraft components, instruments or systems must be examined in specialised institutes, a process that can be time-consuming. Nonetheless, international practice generally recommends completing investigations within one year.
