The mausoleum of poets in Tabriz, capital of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, has been seriously damaged as a result of construction activities in the area, Oyannews reported.

Several prominent Azerbaijan poets, including Khagani, Mujiraddin Beylagani, Gatran Tabrizi and Shahriyar, have been buried in the area.

Despite warnings by specialists, the Tabriz City Hall permitted the construction of a large building near the mausoleum a few months ago.

More than 400 poets and writers have been buried in the area. But most of the graves have been destroyed by earthquakes and mudslides.
