Viral video purportedly showing captured Maduro in New York sparks authenticity debate
A video allegedly showing ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro being transported through the streets of New York in an open-door vehicle has gone viral, triggering a wave of speculation regarding its authenticity.
The footage, which appeared on social media early Monday, depicts a high-security convoy moving through Manhattan. Proponents of the video claim it was a deliberate "display" of the captured leader following his extradition to the United States on Jan. 4.
However, independent fact-checkers and security experts have yet to verify the time and location of the recording.
The White House and the Department of Justice have declined to comment on the specific video.
Maduro, who was apprehended by U.S. special forces in Caracas last week, is currently in federal custody awaiting trial on narco-terrorism charges.
