Iran reports thousands killed during protests

Around 2,000 people, including members of the security forces, have been killed during protests in Iran, an Iranian official told Reuters.

Opposition Iranian media, however, cite much higher figures. According to Iran International, the death toll from the protests has reached at least 12,000 people.

The outlet said the unrest represents the deadliest episode in Iran’s modern history.
