U.S. senator says he met Iranian opposition figure Reza Pahlavi

 U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said he had met with Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi, stressing that Washington supports the Iranian people and opposes the country’s current ruling system.

In a statement following the meeting, Graham said the United States “stands with the people of Iran” and against what he described as a brutal regime.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Fox News that authorities had full control of the situation inside the country, adding that calm had returned after recent unrest.

Arab media reported fighter jet flights over Iraq’s southern city of Basra near the Iranian border, though no official confirmation was provided regarding the aircraft or their mission.

Comments by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that killings of protesters in Iran had stopped weighed on global oil markets, pushing prices down about 5% as investors priced in a potential pause in escalation.

Meanwhile, foreign ministers from the Group of Seven said they were “deeply concerned” by reports of deaths and injuries during the crackdown on protests in Iran and warned that further sanctions could be imposed if violence continues.

Iranian military officials have said the country rebuilt its military capabilities and increased missile stockpiles following a 12-day conflict in June, adding that forces remain on high alert.
