Train derailment in Spain kills 10, injures dozens
A major railway accident in southern Spain has left at least 10 people dead and dozens injured after two high-speed passenger trains derailed in Cordoba province, emergency services said.
About 100 passengers were injured, with at least 25 in serious condition. The wounded were taken to hospitals in Cordoba and nearby areas, with additional ambulances and medical helicopters deployed.
Preliminary reports indicate that one train derailed and subsequently collided with another train travelling on the same section of track, causing further derailments and severe damage to rail infrastructure. Rail traffic on the route was fully suspended.
Spanish authorities have launched an official investigation into the cause of the accident, focusing on track conditions, signalling systems and safety procedures. The government said assisting victims remains its top priority.
